Exploits
I received an email with the message that this web site had been linked on the avalanche club web site. I clicked the link and discovered this quote by the snake oil man, "snow geek".
"People have been jumping into all the big, scary lines and not triggering avalanches. For the Wasatch Range, you can follow some of these exploits at the various blogs such as StraightChuter, WowWasatch or Telemark Tips. We’re lucky to have so many volunteer stability testers".
If the links are followed there is good info from Andrew on how to get around in the mountains, with an aggressive ad campaign to buy this or that. The link to my site includes snow profiles and detailed descriptions of avalanche conditions, organized from the beginning of winter, for a historical perspective. The last link is an internet chat room, with a focus on "hey, look at me, I rip on snow".
Apparently , with the widespread use of the world wide web, as a means of learning about snow and avalanche conditions in the Wasatch, the pressure is on the club.
I sent two emails requesting a deletion of the link to my web site and also suggested donating to the site, since the information has been used a number of times for hazard rating descriptions, without recognition. One reply,
"I like your site and I look at it regularly to see what you are doing and thinking. I think you provide a great service".
no deletion and no offer to help with the funding.
Wondering about the purpose of the links? Certainly not for following exploits of "volunteer stability testers".
Isn't that a hueristic trap?
Don't have a separate "friends" group for fundraising nor a budget of a quarter of a million dollars.
