May 31
Still interested in snow(sick, I know), but, knowing it hadn't froze in over a week, I went up LCC.
Alta in the morning.
Pretty view, looks lumpy.
I skinned to Cardiff pass, followed the ridge and descended LSB(black knob) and skinned to the top of Superior
Little Cottonwood panorama
Looking back up from the low angled rock slabs.
Traversed around, ascending past Holy Toledo, back to the pass.
The snow is well consolidated "firn" snow. Slow as molasses. I waxed with quicky paste wax prior to each descent. Hazards are from loose rock fall, collapsing snow bridges, glide cracks, moats, runnels, taking a slider on the steeps etc.
It would be nice to see a cool northerly flow, allowing a refreeze. Otherwise, there's always the esoteric 4th of July turns.
