February 9
I went to look at the slide I'd been caught in. Details are here and if you wanna mix it up onna chat room, here.
My friend Alan Davis died in an avalanche on Gobblers a few years back, lookers left, big north east face, of the one I rode.
The prayer flags were placed in remembrance.
Didn't get any pics of the slide so I one arm flip flooped up for viewing, today.
This is where I stopped sliding, about 1500 vertical feet from the trigger point.
A view of the entire slide path which descended about 2500 vertical, into and down the main gully.
Coulda ended up...lucky!
A zoom of the starting zone. Cameras are made for right handers and mine is in a sling so...
Even closer. I grabbed the last little tree but the slide broke 15' or so higher and I got stripped off from the pounding.
Davis gulch to the left of the slide path, evident scouring on the shoulder, visible crossloading in the hollow, looker's right of the slide.
Thanks to all who emailed expressing feelings. Hope to answer most of those.
Also got a coupla donations, sorely needed for coninued snow studies funding.
