February 10
Bowman trail, Pole canyon,
mdidle bowl(Alexander Basin),
bobslid(Porter fork).
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
6200-10400', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
4-10" new snow, elevation dependent, over a mostly crusted base.
Old surface was spongy on the shady, supportable, off aspects and south facing.
New snow was of moderate density, which helped not feeling the old surface on all but the steeper slopes.
Weather
Overcast skies and light wind. Instability showers throughout the day with, perhaps, an inch of additional accumulation.
Avalanche activity
Limited to surface sluffing, with natural point releases.
Ski cuts and cornice drops produced some shallow sluffs, both in starting zones and on break overs.
Evaluation
Good stability on all aspects at all elevations.
Future potential instability, wind drifting and day time heating with clearing.
