March 4
Grizzly Gulch,
East bowl Silver Fork,
Hideaway Park,
Finger chutes, out to Spruces.
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7500-10400', angles over 35°, all aspects
Snow conditions
4-8" of new snow, elevation and aspect dependent, over a mostly crusted base.
New snow dried out a bit and was light density. It did retain enough moisture to provide cushioning over the old surface.
Wind during the storm moved the snow around, with shallow drifting on lee aspects.
Ski cutting initiated several slides(3-5" deep), which moved downhill for some distance on the crust, lacking punch.
Weather
Blue skies, wind from the west at less than 15 mph, cool temperatures at upper elevations.
Evaluation
Good stability with shallow wind drifting and sluffs.
Potential lingering active wind drifts, wet activity with warming.
