April 17
Thought I'd take advantage of a beautiful day.
Alta guard station, Cardiff fork, Reynolds flat.
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7350-10600', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
Excellent refreeze with softening timely.
Weather
Clear skies, mild temperatures and light wind.
Avalanche activity
Views of Holy Toledo
wet slab avalanche which released late last week.
I'd guess the width at about 300' with the slide running 8-900' vertical.
Timing?
A photo from the top of Gobblers on Friday April 11th at 1:04 pm so...probably ran after cooling down late afternoon, Friday or early morning, Saturday.
Evaluation
Stability was dependent on sun warming with shallow rollers on northeast facing by 1pm.
Would expect spring conditions continuing, hampered by cloudy skies, a few flakes and slightly warmer temperatures.
