February 2
Gobblers Knob
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
6200-10400', angles over 35°, north facing aspects.
Snow conditions
8-12" new snow from the stormy period. It was right side up and bonded well.
Ski penetration was a few inches. Boot and pole penetration variable, to the ground in scattered areas.
Weather
Overcast to partly cloudy skies with light wind from the south along upper elevation ridges.
Cool temperatures preserving the light and dry on all aspects.
Evaluation
Good stability in area traveled
Weather guessers have another storm incoming so...
I'd expect increased instability dependent on wind, snow amount and bonding of new snow to old surface.
Underlying snow pack is weak and shallow. Potential for deeper layer activation with significant loading.
