May 8
Grizzly Gulch, Silver Fork, Days Fork, Toledo Bowl
Enough fresh to try the new board(my graphic)!
Fast and fun.
Snow conditions
2-8" new snow over a damp, spongy base.
The new snow was right side up with good bonding early in the day.
Day time heating loosened the bond at the old-new interface by early afternoon, with ski cuts releasing damp slabs.
Those were packing some punch, but not running very fast or far.
Localized collapsing was another effect of the warming.
Weather
Foggy in the morning,
patches of clearing during the day.
Temperatures were moderate to mild, light wind.
Evaluation
Stability dependent on wind, continued snow and temperature.
Isolated wet slab potential with significant load or rapid warming.
