March 29
Upper Solitude, Willow Heights, Monitors, Wills hill, Silver Fork lodge
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7800-10200', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
Snow appeared on the up as soon as the trail went into shade, disappearing on the down before the cabins.
Well developed corn-snocone on all aspects retaining cover.
Cool temperatures + a breeze slowed the softening a bit with firm snow on west facing into the afternoon.
Current coverage(as viewed from the ridge)
for future reference
in case it ever snows again.
Weather
Clear skies, cool temperatures, warming in the afternoon, light wind from the northwest along the ridges.
Avalanche Activity
Cornice drop in West Monitor, musta been a pro.
The cornice trenched out to the ground with descent, illustrating the shallow PC snowpack.
In keeping with the latest social media tradition...
a tips up selfie.
Evaluation
Good stability with late spring-early summer consolidation at all but the highest elevations..
