March 8
Porter Fork road, West Porter, Neffs
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
5500-9800', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
Settled snow.
Off aspects and south facing were crusted, softening in a timely fashion.
A narrow band of dense, creamy powder remains on north facing to about 7k.
Mid and lower elevations are off trail thicketeering. Didn't quite make the parking lot on snow.
Weather
Clear skies, mild temperatures and light wind.
Avalanche activity
Storm cycle slides in Neffs with starting zones down to mid elevations.
All debris piles were covered by more recent snow, fractures lines obscured.
I had better views of Mill B and Broads from the ridge.
One slide not previously observed in upper Stairs Gulch, largest crown was northwest facing.
Evaluation
Good stability in the area traveled with surface sluffing on the steepest hills.
Future stability is dependent on any wind effect and daytime heating.
