February 16
Porter Fork-Gobblers Knob
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
6200-10400', angles over 35°, north facing aspects.
Snow conditions
Stout rain crust in the a.m. to around 8k.
Variable thin rime crust above that elevation with an inch or so of dense snow capping the crust.
Warm temperatures softened the rain crust by afternoon on all but the most shady aspects.
Best tool for descent, IMHO, snoboard.
Weather
Clear skies, light wind, mild temperatures.
Avalanche activity
None observed in Millcreek.
Two recent creep-glide releases were observed in Broads fork.
Larger one was off the mid elevation rock slab south of Bonkers.
adda extra below the blue ice. Appears to be more recent than observed glide on the 11th.
Evaluation
Future instability would be from any new snow amount, bonding, wind and or warming.
