January 6
Twin Lakes, Grizzly Gulch and east bowl of Silver Fork
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7800-10200', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
There was about 4" new and recent medium density snow over a variable (wind)crust.
Crust was stout and slippery in exposed terrain, spongy in sheltered.
Wind did form shallow drifts with ski cuts initiating shallow new snow slides along the ridges.
Enough of a refresh for improved ski conditions.
Weather
Overcast skies, moderate temperatures and light wind.
Evaluation
Good stability in the area.
Instability was limited to surface sluffing and shallow wind drifts. Ski cuts recommended on starting zones.
Future stability will be dependent on any new snow, bonding of new to old surface, temperature and wind.
