November 27
Alta guard station, north facing Cardiff bowl, upper Cardiff(Cardiac bowl), Reynolds Flat
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7400-11k, angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
3-6" new and recent snow over a variable base. South facing and lower elevations remain bony.
Scouring along the ridges and upper bowls from north wind a week or so ago continues to provide thin cover.
Wind from the east, overnight, did a bit of damage, scouring, drifting and scuffing up the surface snow.
There was enough base for cautious skiing in Cardiac(November 17th crust provides support). Mid elevations remain scratchy.
No cracking, no collapsing.
Weather
Partly cloudy to overcast skies, a few flakes in the afternoon, pesky light wind from the ese and cool temperatures.
Snow pit
Evaluation
Good stability on all aspects and elevations traveled through.
Recent east wind may be a player in terrain exposed.
