January 28
Upper Alta parking, Emma Ridges, Down and Out, West Bowl-Silver Fork, Hideaway Park, Main Days, Spruces
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7400-10200', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
Story of the day=rime crust capping all snow.
The crust was quite variable in thickness, ranging from stout on open slopes facing east to thin and fragile in sheltered canopied areas.
Herky jerky ski conditions with the stout crust, loud elsewhere.
Weather
Low clouds and fog with light wind and moderate temperatures.
Evaluation
Rime crust, light wind and cloud cover seemed to be holding any lingering instability in place at the present.
Continued caution would be advisable in terrain with recent wind load and per-existing shallow snow(east and northeast facing).
