December 16

Travel was from Porter Fork parking

gobblers knob

up the summer road, continuing to the trail junction, taking a left, following the trail to the base of Davis Gulch.

paradixe

The face of Gobblers had seen significant wind so I ascended lookers right into the sub-drainage of Paradise, continuing to near the ridge.

brushy

There was about 4" of recent snow, dense, mainly graupel, over the old recrystallized base which provided minimal support,

otherwise known as sand boxing. Took so long, with slow trail breaking that I stopped short for descent. "Creamy" in the upper but,

warm temperatures heated the lower, producing rollers on lower elevation steeps. No propagation.

Trail and road back out was firm, with icy patches but no base damage.

Evaluation

Instability was limited to the rollers. Wind drifting over the recrystallized old snow is the primary concern.
