April 5
Cardiff-Mineral
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7200-10500', angles over 35°, south facing early, north facing aspects.
Snow conditions
Rapid settlement with 12-18" over a spongy base. Natural activity from the last stormy period produced widespread sluffing
on all aspects at upper elevations. Limited to the most recent layering.
Ski cutting initiated much the same.
Dry powder changed to dense, sticky at mid and lower elevation, with warming. That process was slowed somewhat by scattered clouds and a slow warm up. Wet point releases were observed on east facing aspects by early afternoon. Would imagine those progressed around the compass throughout the day.
Weather
Clear and sunny, occasional clouds drifting through. Light wind and pleasant temperatures.
Evaluation
Shallow new snow instabilities, both wet and dry. Weather guessers have a forecast 10-15° rise scheduled so, wet activity would be expected to increase on all but upper elevation shady aspects.
