Spruces to Lambs

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

5800-9800', angles over 35°, all aspects

Snow conditions

Settled snow was found at all elevations on all aspects. There was about 8" above the rain event from January 23-24 at the top of Little Water peak and in Lambs. Wind damage was found along the ridges, scouring was the worst on west and northwest facing. Drifting mainly on easterly aspects, non reactive and settled. Surface hoar was widespread at mid elevations and in meadows.

Near surface faceting, was well developed on shady slopes out of the wind and sun.

Weather

Clear and sunny with mild temperatures and very little wind. Inversion was beginning to form the smog layer at lower elevations.

Evaluation

Stable snow as high pressure builds. Day time heating would provide some limited instability by afternoon on exposed aspects.
