Porter Fork-Mill A-Raymond-Porter Fork

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

6200-10000', angles over 35°, all aspects

Snow conditions

Skiff to an optimistic inch of fresh over a variable old snow surface. South facing crusted, north facing runs the gamut from crust to a foot of facets.

Day time heating was not enough at mid and upper elevations to melt new snow in sun exposed terrain.

Wind drifting was found only along the ridges.

Total snow in the area averaged around 24-28" in upper elevation shady, lacking wind and avalanche effects.

ridge-sluff

Ski cuts initiated shallow slabs and sluffs with minimal punch.

Weather

Clear skies early changing to high clouds in the afternoon. Moderate temperatures, light wind.

Evaluation

Mostly stable snow.

Instability would be from recent wind drifting
