April 10
Yellow Jacket-Toots to Boot-Wilson chutes-Alexander Basin-Gobblers Knob-Porter Fork
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
6200-10400'. angles over 35°, all aspects
Snow conditions
Settled storm total were 14-18" with a slightly higher density cap.
Snow was, for the most part, glued in place, with surface sluffing only on the steepest slopes.
There were a few shallow soft slabs and larger sluffs observed in upper Alexander Basin. They were all on north and east facing aspects, most on angles over 40°.
Debris piles were covered by several inches of more recent snow.
Density increased with descent, best ski conditions above about 8500'.
No wet wet activity.
Weather
Overcast to foggy skies. Snow flurries into the afternoon, little measurable accumulation. Moderate temperatures. Wind only along the upper elevation ridges, gusting around 15 mph.
Evaluation
Mostly stable snow in the area.
Instability would be from scattered wind drifts and wet activity with day time heating.
