April 14
Grizzly gulch, Silver, Days, Cardiff, Mineral
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7200-11k, angles over 35°, all aspects
Snow conditions
4-8" new snow over a mostly crusted base.
New snow was medium density and bonded well to the old surface.
There was a density change within the layering which produced natural surface sluffing.
It was also reactive to ski cuts and would occasionally step down to the old surface as it ran
Wind during the storm added drifting.
Natural activity was observed, mostly on east facing, from those drifts.
There were also several shallow skier released slides.
Mid and lower elevations warmed enough to initiate wet slides, point releases and rollers.
Not a lot of new snow so, those were shallow.
Mank on all aspects below about 8k in the afternoon.
Weather
Snow showers in the am, cloudy to partly cloudy skies, moderate temperatures. Wind from the northwest, decreasing.
Evaluation
New snow instabilities from wind and warming.
Would expect lingering active drifting at upper elevations and another round of wet activity with daytime heating.
