January 21

Porter Fork, Silver Bell

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

6200-9500', angles over 35°, north facing aspects

Snow conditions

6-8" settled snow over a variable in thickness rain crust.

Lower elevations had some overnight hoar frost

melting-hoar

which melted with day time heating.

Winds from the northwest continue, forming shallow drifts on lee aspects, cross loading and scouring windward

Surface sluffing on steep and shady which will run some distance and pack a punch if interacting with the rain crust.

Weather

Partly cloudy skies, moderate temperatures and light wind.

Evaluation

Possible to take a slider on upper elevation wind scoured.

Wind drifting at upper elevations is likely to still be reactive.
