Bowman-Cabin run-Alexander basin-Millcreek

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

6400-10k, angles over 35°, north, east and west facing aspects.

Snow conditions

An inch of fresh at the trailhead with an additional two inches or so falling during the day.

New snow was of the lighter density variety.

Old snow surface was a mixed bag of crusts except on sheltered and shady north facing.

Surface sluffing with ski cuts, on steeper slopes. Sluffs were not running very far or packing much punch.

Weather

Overcast to foggy skies. Snow showers all day, Winds were from the west with gusts around 20 mph on the ridges. Cool temperatures.

Evaluation

Instability would be from wind drifting on lee aspects.

Weather guess suggests a huff and puffer lacking enough snow to activate older snow weak layering.
