March 22
Grizzly Gulch-Silver Fork-Days Fork-Spruces
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7400-10500, angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
6-14' new snow, elevation dependent.
Light density snow capped the dense, wind blown, early storm snow providing a fast base.
Bonding was good with surface sluffing-shallow soft slabs on steeper slopes,
as can be seen looker's left in upper Days Fork.
Lack of sun and warming kept south facing cool into late afternoon.
Weather
Overcast skies with snow flurries. Moderate temperatures and light wind from the northwest(10-20mph), mostly along the ridges.
Evaluation
Stable snow conditions with sluffing, the instability.
There may be some scattered wind drifting at upper elevations.
Wet activity possible with warming.
