March 23
Pole canyon-Porter fork
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
6400-10400', angles over 35°, all aspects but north facing.
Snow conditions
2-8" settled from the recent storm.
Wind from the northwest, near the end of the storm, drifted and scoured the face of Gobblers,
with the Cabin run suffering the most scouring.
Day time heating impacted sun exposed the most with a few point release sluffs observed.
By afternoon, shaded aspects at mid elevations were thick, lower elevation exit was soggy.
Small grained surface hoar all the way to the summit, melting at mid and lower elevations.
Weather
Clear skies, moderate temperatures and light wind.
Avalanche activity
A deep slab avalanche was observed in upper Mineral fork
Strong wind prior to and during the early part of the recent storm loaded another area,
with the resulting slide stepping down to older weak layering.
A good view from the top revealed no other large slides in Mill B or Broads.
Evaluation
Stable snow conditions.
Weather guess has another series of storms so...
Bonding of new snow to the old surface may be hampered by lingering surface hoar.
Drifting of new snow with any sustained wind and wet activity from warming also possible.
