Mill D north-Big Water-Reynolds-Butler

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

7200-9200', angles over 35°, all aspects.

Snow conditions

I found 2-8" new snow over a variable base, wind and sun crusted on all but sheltered north facing.

New snow was medium density providing a cushion above the crusted base.

Crusts were supportable on south and west facing, not so much on east facing

Bonding was good with some limited surface sluffing.

The nearly ever present wind continues adding to cornice size(not the best example).

ridge

Had to hack through a large one to gain Reynolds ridge.

Weather

Snow showers into late afternoon. Moderate temperatures with wind from the southwest gusting to around 20 mph at 9k.

Evaluation

Mostly stable snow, surface sluffing and drifting, the instabilities.

Would expect wet activity with warming.
