March 31
Willow Heights-West Monitor-Wills Hill-Mule Hollow
Elevations, slope angles and aspects
7600-10200', angles over 35°, all aspects.
Snow conditions
There was a skiff to a coupla inches of very dense new snow.
Rain-snow line appeared to be at about 8500'.
Refreeze was marginal at mid elevations, better up high.
Wet activity at upper elevations was limited to shallow point release sluffs beginning on east facing, in a timely manner,
at around 10am.
Mid and lower elevation north facing gullies spit up by afternoon, leaving good sized debris piles in mid track run outs.
Northwest facing stayed dry into early afternoon at upper elevations.
Exit on low angled south facing was damp and sticky but snow remained supportable with ski penetration less than a foot, boot top, skis off.
Weather
Overcast early, quickly turning to blue skies. Temperatures were mild, wind was from the WSW , gusting to around 30 mph in exposed upper elevations.
Evaluation
Instability was limited to wet point release sluffing.
A determined person could probably initiate a larger wet slide on sun exposed and at mid and lower elevation north facing.
Would expect more of the same till cooling occurs.
