March 3

I skied in Yellow Jacket and Alexander Basin, Millcreek canyon.

It snowed an inch of dense snow.

Good stability with creamy snow to the road.

March 4

Willow Heights-Monitors-Beartrap

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

7800-10200', angles over 35°, all aspects

Snow conditions

1-4" dense new snow, elevation dependent, over a variable base.

South facing had a breakable surface crust over damp snow. North facing was a dense spongy crust.

Wind had been active at some point in the recent past

scotts-peak

evident from looking at Scotts peak. Didn't see that sort of erosion anywhere else but,

cornices

there were large cornice formations in the Monitors. Dropped cornices produced

little-fracture

only shallow new snow crowns which didn't move far or propagate.

dropping

South facing and off aspects suffered from day time heating with, elevations below about 8k turning to mank by late afternoon.

Weather

Partly cloudy skies, mild temperatures. Wind from the west, gusting less than 15 mph along the ridges.

Evaluation

Stable snow in the area. Would have some concern for active wind drifts based on the view of scouring on Scotts peak.

Wet activity may be minimized by weather guessed cloudy skies and cool temperatures.
