November 20

Mill D north fork-Millcreek

Elevations, slope angles and aspects

6400-10k, angles over 35°, all aspects.

Snow conditions

4-6" new snow over a base which ranged from 10" on south facing and at lower elevations to over 2 feet, upper elevation shady.

The new snow was right side up and bonded well.

Investigation of the layering on the shady side revealed a solid snow pack.

Elevations from 9k to about 9500' had a depth of 12-14" with damp base layering.

Above that elevation, there were some mid pack facets from the early-mid November high pressure.

Weather

Overcast skies with occasional snow flurries and moderate temperatures. Wind from the south, gusting to around 20 mph along upper elevation ridges.

Snow pit

Several snow pits during the day in Soldier and Wilson Forks.

Evaluation

Good stability in the area.

Future instabilities would be from significant new snow, wind drifting and or day time heating.
